Why Learn Cybersecurity

As a cybersecurity professional, you will protect the sensitive digital information of companies and their consumers from online attacks. Cybersecurity professionals are quick thinking, able to assess risks, and adaptive at staying ahead of vulnerabilities in systems. With an ever-growing demand, cybersecurity professionals have a near-zero unemployment rate, a high earning rate, and have a wide range of specializations, including government pathways. Cybersecurity professionals have the potential to earn more as they obtain higher security clearances.

The Demand for Cyber Talent

The opportunity is massive in both Illinois and across the United States. According to research from cyberseek.org, in the Chicago area alone, there are currently over 16,626 open cybersecurity roles and a very low supply of cybersecurity talent.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of information security analyst positions will grow 33% in the next 10 years.

Nationally, there are over half a million cyber jobs that employers are trying to fill. Businesses actively seeking cybersecurity professionals span across all industries and sizes, and they include local high-tech employers like Google, AT&T, and Amazon, to name a few.

Students who complete the UIC Cybersecurity Bootcamp curriculum will be prepared for entry-level jobs in cybersecurity.
